Out & About with Jinx Mirage: Gearing up for San Diego Pride

San Diego Pride is just a week away and we have all the details on what to do while you wait.

What’s up world?!

this your social butterfly Jinx Mirage bringing you all the what’s-what and the goings on in the San Diego Gay Community.

And I hope you all had a great July 4th weekend because I sure did. But before I get into all that craziness. Let’s talk about a few of the events coming up this week.

Hillcrest is curbing service dog frauds

Some people are abusing the service dog laws in San Diego causing some businesses to crack down.

Service dogs are always welcome into an establishment, it's the law. But some are abusing that privilege by bringing in their pets and calling them service dogs.

This seems to be the case for several San Diego restaurants and they have had enough.

Jim Winsor’s Out & About: Cinco de Mayo in Hillcrest

Cinco de Mayo at Uptown Tavern

Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo. This Mexican holiday, popular both south and north of the border, falls on a Friday this year, hence promising to be quite lively indeed.

That being the case, here’s a quick run-down of some of the festive fiestas happening here in Hillcrest:

DJ Tristan Jaxx at Porto Vista Hotel for Cinco de Mayo

DJ Tristan Jaxx will be the special musical guest at Top of the Bay on Cinco de Mayo.

This Friday is Cinco de Mayo and there is no better place to have a fiesta that high atop one of the most beautiful hotels in San Diego.

The Porto Vista Hotel will have south of the border flair for its First Friday event this month. They're spicing things up especially for Cinco de Mayo.

Homophobic harassment on the rise in Hillcrest

Anti-gay threats are on the rise in Hillcrest according to some residents and employees.

Some in the Hillcrest community are concerned about the recent uptick in harassment aimed at LGBT businesses and patrons this month.

Employees and customers say they have had to deal with a multitude of cases involving individuals making homophobic cold calls, verbal abuse and dangerous pranks which seem to be targeted at gays throughout the primarily LGBT section of San Diego.

Mo's trivia champ donates winnings to help trans community

Paulo Batista (fourth from left) donates his trivia contest winnings to local trans charity.

One Hillcrest trivia buff has put his money where his knowledge is and donated his substantial winnings to support the San Diego trans community.

Paulo Batista isn’t used to using his trivia answering skills in public, but when he won Mo’s Brain Vs. Brawn (BB) contest he had an idea; to donate that money to a good cause, one very close to his heart.
