Smooth transition, unfinished business mark first anniversary of "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" repeal

Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) and OutServe applaud and celebrate the one-year anniversary of repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” praising the smooth transition the military has made in allowing gay, lesbian and bisexual Americans to serve openly in the military, and call on the White House, Pentagon and Congress to embrace and advance the final work necessary to achieve full LGBT equality in the Armed Forces.

Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta releases historic Pride VIDEO message

The Human Rights Campaign and other LGBT groups are commending U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta for releasing a historic video message to members of the military commemorating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month, which takes place each June.

VIDEO: New campaign highlights stories of military families harmed by DOMA

The campaign launches with the release of an online video illustrating the real injury inflicted on gay and lesbian military families who, because of the federal government’s refusal to respect their marriages legally, are denied the support and protections that all other military families receive.

Aubrey Sarvis' departure from SLDN is the third major resignation at iconic LGBT organizations in the past year. Geoff Kors, the longtime executive director of Equality California, left on March 31, 2011. And Joe Solmonese is departing at the end of March 2012 as president of the Human Rights Campaign.
