Mama’s Kitchen was awarded a $10,000 matching grant from the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation (SDHDF), for its AIDS Nutrition Program. The check was presented at Mama’s Kitchen’s Tree of Life event, honoring World AIDS Day.
The trees are decorated with ornaments that honor those who have been affected by HIV/AIDS and will remain on display throughout the holiday season at Village Hillcrest. Ornaments can be purchased now through that evening and personalized with a message.
Proceeds go directly to the daily operations of Mama’s Kitchen, the only non-profit in San Diego that prepares and delivers three meals a day, seven days a week, at no charge to men, women and children affected by AIDS/HIV or cancer.
As of May 14, the organization has achieved 58% of their goal, raising $1.5 million of the $2.6 million to pay for the purchase and renovation of the building, which has given the organization a permanent location and increased the organization's capacity to serve more people and provide more in-house prepared food.
