Normal Street Promenade project approved, can finally move forward

Normal Street Promenade in Hillcrest approved by Uptown Planners.

Even though SANDAG and The City of San Diego had already approved the Normal Street Promenade in Hillcrest, the project's future was still up in the air due to concerns from local business owners and residents as late as this week. 

Those cares were addressed at a bustling Uptown Planners meeting on Tuesday where they voted to move ahead with the plan.

Here is everything we covered in SDGLN this week.

A lot happened in the religious sect this week. The United Methodist Church officially voted to exclude LGBT members and the ordainment of clergy inside that organization. Also, a gay marriage nearly 50 years old is finally federally recognized. 

In entertainment news, SDPIX presents Dream Machine is returning to Rich's this weekend and the fun will go into after hours.

Hillcrest is going to be masked in fun this week with two big events coming to the neighborhood. On Saturday the legendary Dream Machine returns to Rich's and then next Tuesday it's time for Hillcrest to transform into the French Quarter as Mardi Gras takes over the nighttime streets.

This was a short week as people took Monday off in observance of President's Day, but there was plenty in the news both locally and nationally including yet another twist in the Jussie Smollett case. 

The Asian Bistro reopens to a supportive Hillcrest

The Asian Bistro reopens to a supportive Hillcrest.

The Hillcrest restaurant where Stefano Markell Parker opened fire last week reopened Tuesday night, one week after the attack.

The Asian Bistro on University Avenue suffered extensive damage to its facade especially to the windows, some of which shattered due to the hail of bullets from the gunman's rifle.

SDGLN Weekly Wrap: Feb. 9 - Feb 15, 2019

A rash of crime hit the San Diego Hillcrest community this week. The biggest being a shooter who took his semi-automatic rifle and fired it inside a restaurant filled with patrons and employees. Police apprehended the shooter and are currently investigating whether or not to call it a hate crime.
