Five more San Diegans died from complications from influenza, bringing the total to nine this season, the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) reported on Wednesday.
Although the two illnesses carry similar symptoms and the way people catch colds and the flu is roughly the same, the severity, treatment and in the case of the flu — prevention — can differ.
As of Dec. 28, 357 flu cases have been reported this flu season, which is 50 percent more than the number of cases reported this time last season, reported KPBS.
