California State Board of Education approves LGBTQ inclusive textbooks

Yesterday, the California State Board of Education adopted ten LGBTQ-inclusive history and social studies textbooks for K-8 classrooms and rejected two which failed to include LGBTQ people. The state's subject matter frameworks require LGBTQ inclusion following the 2011 passage of the FAIR Education Act, authored by Senator Mark Leno.

In light of Trump’s Tweet today about the ban of transgender men and women in the military, Log Cabin Republican President, Gregory T. Angelo, issued the following statement:

“This smacks of politics, pure and simple. The United States military already includes transgender individuals who protect our freedom day in and day out.

Poll: Californians favor the freedom to marry

California is ready for the resumption of marriage for same-sex couples, Equality California announced today based on polling of likely voters showing 55% favor the freedom to marry, an increase of 18% since 2004.

Equality California to honor Vincent Pompei at San Diego ceremony

Pompei is the project director for the Center for Excellence in School Counseling and Leadership, and the chair for the only national educator conference focused on LGBTQ youth. He is currently a full time doctoral candidate at San Diego State University and is a former middle school and high school teacher.
