First, I want to thank you. I’m honored and humbled to be named Executive Director-designate of Equality California. I can’t wait to work with each of you as we continue the fight for full, lived LGBTQ+ equality.
California may lead the nation in taking significant steps to provide equal rights to its LGBT citizens, but the Golden State has a long way to go before providing full equality, finds a groundbreaking report.
AB 2237 is another one of those infamous “religious freedom” bills that sound so harmless but in reality would legally hijack of the rights of Americans, gay and straight, and allow businesses to hide behind their faith to discriminate against anyone they don’t like.
Prompted by the findings of the School Safety and Nondiscrimination Laws Audit released in 2013 which reported that school bullying prevention efforts are falling short, today State Senator Ricardo Lara and Equality California introduce legislation that would improve the handling of bullying and discrimination incidents in schools.
