Former prosecutor ordered to pay $4.5 million for defaming gay student

Former state assistant attorney general Andrew Shirvell was ordered to pay $4.5 million in damages after a federal jury on Thursday ruled that his blog — “Chris Armstrong Watch” — which attacked the former University of Michigan’s openly gay student body president, was in fact defamation.

COMMENTARY: Andrew Shirvell, who hounded gay student, now claims victim status

Shirvell is stretching the credulity of jurisprudence by claiming in a May 6 court filing that he actually is the victim in the fight he provoked – targeted by a reputed “homosexual agenda” often cited by right-wing extremists as seeking to thwart Christianity, destroy the institution of marriage and expand the number of LGBT people through “recruitment.”
