The Center to host 2021 Veterans Wall of Honor ceremony virtually

We are excited to share that our annual Benjamin F. Dillingham III & Bridget Wilson LGBT Veterans Wall of Honor Induction Ceremony will take place virtually on Thursday, November 4th from 6-7pm.

The ceremony will be livestreamed from The Center’s Facebook page and will include a brief program with a Presentation of Colors, the National Anthem, recognition of inductees, and special remarks.

The idea for the LGBT Veterans Wall of Honor was conceived by City Commissioner Nicole Murray Ramirez, with the generous support of veterans Benjamin F. Dillingham, III and Bridget Wilson, and created under the leadership of then Center CEO, Dr. Delores Jacobs.

Thought to be the first of its kind to honor LGBTQ veterans, the LGBT Veterans Wall of Honor was unveiled at The Center on November 10, 2011 after the formal repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

The LGBT Veterans Wall of Honor recognizes LGBTQ veterans with ties to San Diego who served under anti-LGBTQ policies, including Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, preventing their ability to serve, and serve safely and openly. These veterans have taken the oath to serve our country and have done so honorably, and with distinction, acting as role models in advancing equality. The LGBT Veterans Wall commemorates these veterans' lives in hopes that their courage, bravery, and sacrifices will continue to inspire future generations. Community members can RSVP to the virtual event by clicking here.
