The award will be presented to the star of the HBO Max docuseries "Equal" at the 51st Anniversary of the Imperial Court of Los Angeles celebration.
The International Imperial Court Council will be honoring Emmy Award winner actor/singer Jai Rodriguez on November 14 at the 51st Anniversary of the Imperial Court of Los Angeles celebration.
Rodriguez will be receiving the prestigious International Jose Julio Sarria Equality Honor as well as the International Empress 1 Jose Medal of Distinction.
Past honorees include U.S. Senator, members of the Canadian Parliament, a Mexican congresswoman, mayors and major LGBTQ leaders and organizations. Rodriguez has appeared in films, Broadway shows, and more and now portrays Empress Jose Julio Sarria in the acclaimed HBO Max docuseries "Equal" which is now streaming.
"Jai Rodriguez has long been a role model for the Latino/LGBTQ communities and he is committed to give voice and educate new generations about our history and whose shoulders we stand on," said Empress Nicole Murray-Ramirez, Queen Mother 1 of the Americas. Murray-Ramirez will be presenting the honor.
In 1961, Sarria, a World War II Veteran, became the first openly Gay candidate to run for public office in North America. In 1965, Empress 1 Jose founded the International Imperial Court System which now has 70 chapters in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
