SDGMC is being honored for its work in the community in support of LGBTQ issues.
The San Diego Gay Men's Chorus is being honored by the California's Legislative LGBTQ Caucus as a 2020 Pride Month Honoree. A virtual awards presentation will be held on Monday, June 22. Each year the California Legislature celebrates the month of June as LGBTQ Pride Month. This year, SDGMC is being honored for its work in the community in support of LGBTQ issues.
California’s Legislative LGBTQ Caucus was formed in 2002 to create a forum for California Legislators to discuss issues that affect LGBTQ Californians and to further the goal of equality and justice for all Californians. California was the first state in the country to form an official caucus of openly-LGBTQ state legislators. An LGBTQ Caucus priority is advocating for diversity and inclusion of all people, especially our most marginalized populations. They believe honoring and highlighting LGBTQ leaders and their allies is a key factor in furthering their goals of inclusion and equality, as well as serving as role models for our youth.
The Caucus' annual Pride Month ceremony serves as a time to highlight those within the community who also help further these goals, and give the Caucus the chance to express their thanks and gratitude to the pioneers, vanguards, and trailblazers of this historic movement.
Due to COVID-19, the traditional public celebration and presentation will be a virtual presentation on Monday, June 22 from 6-7pm. To watch the celebration, RSVP by Friday, June 19.
