The holidays are quickly coming to an end while the new year is fastly approaching. This week there were a few stories that made headlines including the sale of Pernicano’s which has become official according to the seller and the real estate agent.

We also found out that one of the longest-running community fundraisers continued its efforts to give back and raised over $12k.

Of course, this is one of the busiest weeks in Hillcrest with New Year's Eve coming up and our "Out & About" column is packed with details on all the fun happening throughout the gayborhood.

As always we here at Hale Media wish everyone a safe New Year's Eve and all the success, happiness, and prosperity for 2020!

NEWS

It's finally time to stop wondering if the Pernicano’s building on Sixth Avenue in Hillcrest will ever get sold. Jeanine Savory, the real estate agent who represented the Pernicano family has confirmed it has changed hands. Although Savory has verified the sale, she is not giving any details about what will end up in that long-boarded-up space. She told SDGLN there was a confidentiality agreement with the buyer and can't give any specific details.

Last month a Utah elementary school student named Daniel was asked what he was thankful for by his teacher. When he said he was thankful for being adopted by two dads the educator asked why then proceeded to tell him it wasn't good: “Homosexuality is wrong,” the teacher said, “two men living together is a sin.” Daniel and his family appeared on a news show to talk about the ordeal.

CAUSES

One of San Diego's longest-running weekly LGBTQ community fundraising events, Tiger's Pictionary, announced this past week that in 2019, they raised $12,104 for local charities.

ENTERTAINMENT

This week we took a swipe at the movie "Cats": Since it first opened in London’s West End in 1981, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats has confounded and enthralled audiences and critics alike. They were not entirely sure what to do with a cast of actors dressed as cats in an experimental, dance-heavy, almost entirely plotless musical, but they kept returning to the theater to experience it again and again.
