Thanks to Memorial Day Weekend it was a short news week but there was still a lot to report when it came to the community especially the news that Pride of Hillcrest Block Party is returning, and the naming of San Diego Pride music festival stage headliners.

There was also a social media alert as someone, according to police, threatened the Hillcrest area in a Facebook Messenger post.

Plus, this week's "Out & About" highlights many fun things to do in the community including crowning the first-ever Mr. Flicks. These stories and so much more in the San Diego Gay and Lesbian News weekly wrap.

A reported direct message on social media had several people in Hillcrest on alert Wednesday evening. There were false reports that said someone may have had a gun in the area.

A Chicago bar left social media jaws agape after it announced that rap music would no longer be allowed to play at the venue. But club management changed their minds after social media criticized the move as racist.

"In a suburb just outside of Dallas, and to the disbelief of many - straight and LGBTQ- across the country, a transgender mural is painted on the side of a tattoo and piercing shop. The mural commemorates the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, displaying an image of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera (our foresisters) of the Stonewall Riots. They are the catalysts of our 1969-to-present day LGBTQ movement. Their images are against the backdrop of the colors of the transgender pride flag."  Read more of this commentary by Rev. Irene Monroe.

With the celebration of national Pride month and San Diego’s very own Pride celebration currently in development, we should also draw our attention to parties and charitable events that help those in the community. One such event is The Red Dress Party launch event

Our theater critic Jean Lowerison reviews a quirky "Pride and Prejudice," "The Old Man and the Moon," and  “M. Butterfly.”

This week in Out & About, we give details on the launch of the Red Dress Party, A Water Gunfight and lots of other fun things to do in the community.

It was a Thursday night full of excitement at Flicks as the crowd waited in anticipation of who would become the first ever Mr. Flicks. The title went to King Stephan

Get ready San Diego, the Pride of Hillcrest Block Party is back, and this year it's a free event. The celebration is presented by San Diego County Credit Union (SDCCU), Miller/Coors and Effen Vodka. This is an inclusive event which adheres to this year's theme: “Free to be you.”

Flicks announced its first ever Mr. Flicks on Thursday.

San Diego Pride has announced that actress and rapper Snow Tha Product will headline the Mundo Latino stage at this year’s San Diego Pride Music Festival on Saturday, July 13-14 in Balboa Park.

San Diego Pride is showcasing their A-list talent line-up for Pride early in July by announcing Car Astor as their headliner for She Fest which takes place on July 6.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has moved gender incongruence (transgender) from its list of mental health disorders in the Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD) to a revised chapter for sexual health.

For the first time in its history, the Guinness Storehouse has dropped their traditional black painted gates for the rainbow colors of Pride.

Summer is approaching and along with protecting your skin in the Southern California sunshine, you should also be protecting your eyes
