SDGLN Weekly Wrap: August, 12 - August, 18 2017

Here is everything we covered this week in San Diego Gay and Lesbian News.

Dominating the news this week was the white supremacist's "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. One woman died after a white nationalist rammed his car into a counter-protestor crowd.

A Twitter handle named "Yes, You're Racist" was created to out the alt-right extremists after they made anti-Semitic and homophobic remarks.

A whole New York town received fliers pinpointing a neo-Nazi resident who attended the Charlottesville rally, the accused says his "life is over" there

Nazi sympathizer and viral poster boy for the rally, Peter Cvjetanovic, immediately went on the defense to say "I'm the not angry racist they see in that photo."

While President Trump was vacationing in New Jersey, he did a quick press junket in which he blamed both sides but amended that sentiment on Monday before reverting back to it on Tuesday.

Rallies across the nation took matters into their own hands and began to dismantle Confederate effigies destroying them such as this one in North Carolina. San Diego had its own Confederate landmark which was uprooted in Horton Plaza.

A woman in North Carolina spotted one of her neighbors with a Nazi flag hanging over his porch and questioned him about it in his driveway and caught the whole thing on video

A tearful white nationalist made a YouTube video in which he says he scared because there is a warrant out for his arrest after he threatened "violence" with a gun in Charlottesville.

In local news, a man scaled a billboard in Mission Hills but came down peacefully before being sent to the hospital for evaluation.

Thirty-five years ago, Pink Floyd released the movie "The Wall," which has striking similarities in its narrative to things going on right now in America.

In response to the hate and violence that took place in Charlottesville, a United Intersections of Justice Rally against Hate will be held beneath the Pride flag in Hillcrest on Sunday.
