The big news this week was President Donald Trump's announcement via Twitter that transgender men and women would no longer be allowed to serve their country. 

This caused many in the community to speak out against the proclamation including The Log Cabin Republicans, and San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer

Support for his Twitter promulgation came from the religious sector by two conservative organizations. 

Storefront signage in the old location of Filter on University Avenue in Hillcrest shows another coffeehouse and bakery moving into the location. 

On Tuesday an intrepid squirrel created a neighborhood-wide power outage after he interfered with an SDG&E conductor.

The Hillcrest Business Association created a protest art installation of balloons to challenge SANDAG's plans to remove parking spots in the community to make way for bike lanes. 

Talks are in the works about turning Qualcomm Stadium into a safe place for San Diego's growing homeless population. 

The owner of the gay club Dallas Eagle is running for governor of Texas and he says he is giving it his all in the predominately red state. 

Mayor of Hillcrest Nicole Murray-Ramirez was in Idaho last week, meeting with LGBT leaders and discussing Boise Pridefest. 

An LGBT fighting force is turning the tables on ISIS in Syria and promise to plant a rainbow flag on the site of each victory. 

Travelers to Mexico are being warned about alcohol being served in that country after two incidents of people blacking out has raised concerns by foreign visitors. 


Senator John McCain sent out a press release and statement over Trump's anti-trans military statement saying, "American who wants to serve our country and is able to meet the standards should have the opportunity to do so—and should be treated as the patriots they are." 

Also, transgender activist and writer Gwendolyn Ann Smith says bringing up the sitcom character Klinger from M*A*S*H does not help the trans in the military cause. 

And Reverand Irene Monroe also weighs in on the military issue


In honor of the creator of the transgender flag, and in protest of Trump's ban on trans folks in the military, the transgender flag flew high over Hillcrest at Pride Plaza on Thursday.
