It’s Valentine’s Day and whether you’re a last-minute giver, or have planned in advance a special day for that special someone in your life, there is plenty to choose from in and around Hillcrest.

Go See a Live Stage Performance from a Broadway Star

Martinis Above Fourth is celebrating the day of love with a special performance by David Burnham called “A Broadway Valentine.” Burnham is fresh off of his Las Vegas show called Showstoppers.

He also starred as Flyero in Broadway’s “Wicked.”

Tonight, he gives the audience a treat, singing some of your favorite Broadway songs.

There will also be a Prix Fixe menu with a la carte selections available. Doors open at 6 pm. Get your tickets HERE

People Watch at Uptown Tavern or Grab Some Pizza

If you are looking for a nice meal with plenty of urban buzz, head out too Uptown Tavern for a wonderful selection of menu items that you can share.

Full bar, outdoor seating and a wonderful staff, Uptown Tavern has quickly become a local favorite for socializing with friends and people watching. The kitchen closes at 10 pm, but the bar stays open until 1 am.

If your more in the mood for love by the slice, check out My Pizza Valentine at Hillcrest Brewing Company. They are serving up heart-shaped pizzas with a night of trivia, raffles, and prizes.

Take in a Stage Show

Maybe you would rather take in a show. One of the most popular stage performances right now is “Freaky Friday,” playing at the La Jolla Playhouse’s Mandell Weiss Theatre. This is a stage adaptation of the Disney classic.

Our theater critic Jean Lowerison says, “Freaky Friday” is a goofy story that also packs an emotional punch.”

Grab Some Popcorn and Watch an Academy Award Nominated Movie in Hillcrest

If live theater isn’t your thing, the Landmark Hillcrest Cinema is playing three of the nine Academy Award nominees for Best Picture including the critically acclaimed LGBT film “Moonlight.”

Mahershala Ali is nominated for Best Supporting actor in this story about self-discovery and connection in an urban neighborhood of Miami.

Also playing at the Landmark is “La La Land,” a modern musical with classic fringe starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner

After the show, head over to Urban Mo’s from 5 pm to 11 pm, for their “Cheap Thrills V-Date,” where you can get a bottomless spaghetti dinner for two for only $25 with a bottle of wine included.

They are also offering $6 “Blackout Lemonades (if the date really tanks)."

Don't Forget It's Taco Tuesday

Gossip Grill is also offering their “Tickle My Tacos” Tuesday special until 10 pm, with $5 margaritas.

Stream Something at Home

When you finally get home, or you're just celebrating the night by yourself, there is plenty to watch on your favorite streaming device.

Hulu has added every episode from every season of “The Golden Girls” for your enjoyment, or four seasons of the Australian LGBT comedy “Please Like Me.”

Netflix has some great LGBT-themed movies to peruse, such as festival favorite, “Those People,” and comedy “The 10 Year Plan.” Bianca Del Rio stars in her debut movie, “Hurricane Bianca.”

Women in love are the focus of “That’s Not Us,” and “Room in Rome.”

If you like your entertainment broken up into viewable chunks, the Netflix reboot of 70's sitcom “One Day at a Time” has an LGBT twist and both “The L Word” and “Queer as Folk” are available on the service.

Go To The Beach

One of the best things about living in San Diego is its proximity to the beach. Whether you want to take in the beautiful landscape of Sunset Cliffs or head over to the more bustling sands of Pacific or Mission Beach, there is nothing more romantic that throwing your shoes off and strolling down the coast hand-in-hand with that special someone.

According to Siri, sunset tonight is at 5:33 pm, with clouds clearing up by 6 pm and temperatures in the mild 60s.

Whatever you decide to do tonight, San Diego Gay and Lesbian News wishes you a happy and safe Valentine's Day.
