SDGLN Weekly Wrap: Jan. 21 - 27, 2017

NEWS

It's been an interesting first full-week of Donald J. Trump's presidency, especially because of his Executive Order to build a wall at the US-Mexico border.. A San Diego politician has called the executive order 'embarrasingly un-American.' State Senator Toni Atkins and Assemblymember Todd Gloria weighed in, too. San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer said: "We already have a safe and secure border."

Citizens are also speaking up against Trump: Activists have placed a "Resist" banner over the White House on a nearby crane; a New York man is organizing a massive LGBT march on Washington for this June.

Hundreds of thousands of people participated in Women's Marches across the globe the day after Trump's inauguration. San Diegans rallied in the thousands as well.

175 Mayors have began a coalition to fight LGBT discrimination.

Other national news: Republicans want Texas Supreme Court to overturn gay spousal rights; and a gay waiter gets a hateful message in lieu of a tip.

In Germany, the first-ever LGBT kindergarten and senior complex has been proposed for Berlin.

Locally, CA senators submit a bill to easily change gender on official state documents; Jake Roberson has been missing for two weeks, his mother is continuing the search; Log Cabin Republicans of San Diego announce Board of Directors for 2017; and San Diego is no longer in a drought!
