Mobile platform makes it easier to click, share, and plan your social life.
Heading into their 15th year of publishing and celebrating their recent win for Outstanding Publication at the 2016 Nicky Awards, SDPIX is ringing in the new year with a brand-new website.
The upgrade makes it easier for the mobile user to search items, look at pictures and get more information at their fingertips than ever before.
The SDPIX magazine you know is not only a full-color, all-gloss publication in San Diego, it also boasts the largest online collection of LGBT oriented photos in San Diego through the sdpix.com website.
Johnathan Hale, publisher of SDPIX is proud that the publication both in print and online is the go-to source for everything going on in the LGBT San Diego community.
"Nobody’s invested the type of resources into a brand that provides this type of interactive calendar and photos," he said. "What I really wanted to be able to do is give our community the opportunity to use their phones, to go to our website and get their favorite photos. And create a seamless process in which they can find their favorite events."
For the desktop version, there are a few new characteristics, such as the slideshow feature at the top of the page which displays recently featured albums from events around San Diego.
Click the “Featured Events” widget and you'll have one of best ways to keep up with the "don't miss" events going on around town.
SDPIX started in 2002, with the idea to have a photographer at every LGBT club and event to document the fun, excitement and the people who make up our diverse community. The concept was so popular that SDPIX soon became the number one online catalog of social events in San Diego.
Its popularity exploded and in 2006 the brand began to publish a companion print magazine with professionally photographed pictorials with some of the most well-known models and talents in the LGBT community.
“SDPIX is ultimately about fostering personal relationships by capturing memories, promoting charitable causes, and connecting our advertisers to our LGBT audience," said Hale.
The technical evolution of SDPIX continues to grow with the website relaunch for 2016.
Incorporated full PDF versions have been added which means not only can you pick up a hard copy at your favorite venue, you can now save the entire issue in high resolution to your desktop, phone, or tablet.
The events calendar is the most robust listing of local things to do in Hillcrest and other areas. You can also click through and filter featured events by location with split-second page loading.
"It is monitored on a daily basis and updated as things are submitted to us and as we discover things," said Hale. "Our team proactively scours social media and monitors the websites of all the establishments that we work with to post events, but they also submit things to us, and that literally is a daily process."
With this optimization for mobile-friendly use, users can now search and share any event, photo or article published on the site.
For example, if you attended “Outlaw” at Uptown Tavern and had your picture taken, you can now go into the site and share the full, high resolution image with others from any desktop or mobile device free of charge.
“The new mobile-friendly website reflects the most accessible photo and event-sharing platform we could build," said Hale, "with the most comprehensive and up-to-date event calendar and photo albums that allow individuals to view, search and share.”
By becoming mobile friendly it has allowed SDPIX to provide its readers and clients a seamless way to promote their nightlife events and photos on all mediums.
If you go to Facebook and click on an event or photo album, you will be taken to a mobile friendly platform of that event or images.
Advertisers will also benefit from the upgrade. SDPIX has invested in a custom dedicated short code for text messages or anything that has a shorter URL string, if that message pops up on someone’s cell phone they can hit the smaller link and it will pull up a mobile-friendly version of that event.
It's also easier for people looking to utilize any of the services that SDPIX has to offer.
The "About Us" page gives information about photographers, photo booths and advertising.
Everything is optimized across all platforms to give SDPIX readers and clients the best experience.
For a decade-and-a-half SDPIX has brought the community together for San Diego's biggest and best LGBT events.
With this new upgrade, it will continue to unite all of us even faster, creating friends and memories that will last a lifetime.
"SDPIX is ultimately a witness to our history – with SDPIX photographers compiling hundreds of thousands of pictures in San Diego’s LGBT community over the past 15 years – ranging from the most personal moments of individuals socializing with their friends to standing witness to historical events such as fight against Prop 8 and the ultimate achievement of marriage equality in the courts," said Hale.
