SDGLN Weekly Wrap: Nov. 5 - 11, 2016

NEWS

Well, the long and divisive Presidential Election is over and we now know that Donald Trump will be the next President of the United States. In the days leading up to Election Day, there was lots of news from both sides, including a trans woman who said her truck was burned and tagged "Trump;" and a man who proposed to his boyfriend at a Clinton rally.

Now, the aftermath of President-Elect Trump has begun: Social media users mass e-purge friends, family who voted for Trump; UC San Diego becomes one of many anti-Trump protest sites; Anti-Defamation League concerned over San Diego campus hate crimes; and Tweets show jarring racism, homophobia 24-hours after Trump's win. The National Organization for Marriage (NOM) has released their agenda under Trump rule; and Trump appoints anti-LGBT conservatives to his transition team. A New York Times poll reveals 14% of LGBT voters supported Trump.
