SDGLN Weekly Wrap: Oct. 22 - 28, 2016


For the third week in a row, the troubles at San Diego Pride continue to be in our news coverage. After weeks of protests, allegations, and negotiations, the San Diego Pride board 'updates' their meeting minutes, and says plans for Pride 2017 are moving forward. Other recent news about the situation that is happening at San Diego Pride, which began after news of former executive director Stephen Whitburn's firing came out, can be found HERE.

Other local news includes SDGMC's Bob Lehman honored by City Human Relations Commission; Golden Hill, North Park get communty plan approval from City Council; and road closures for North Park, Normal Heights, and City Heights announced for Oct. 30.

At the national level, we lose another gay bar: Styxx, Portland (in Maine, not Oregon) is the city's only gay bar and will shutter after three decades. Also, a woman allegedly set fire to the Las Vegas LGBT Center and claims Oprah told her to do it; and Equality House riddled with bullet holes and homophobic graffiti.

From the United Kingdom: Scotland embraces their LGBT politicians, making it the 'gayest parliament in the world;' and an openly gay UK Lord Mayor reports hate crime at Bieber concert.

Lastly, Gibraltar unanimously legalizes marriage equality; and, a new study finds: 'straight acting' gays have more privilege, less homophobia.
