The holiday season is quickly approaching and so too is the performance date for The San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus' annual concert “Jingle.”

This show, which will play at the Balboa Theatre on Dec. 10 and 11, is a musical holiday staple in the LGBT community and for the first time is being presented by The San Diego Padres.

You may remember last May, the SDGMC were asked to perform at a Padres game, but due to an error, the wrong track was cued, causing many people to wonder what the relationship was like between professional sports and the LGBT community.

But The Padres have made it clear they are allies and are trying to become more involved with the community.

Executive Director Bob Lehman of the chorus says that the story about  two organizations and two communities coming together, learning about each other and building a lasting relationship, was very compelling.

"Something very good, constructive and positive has came out of this, not just for the chorus, but for the entire LGBT community,"he told San Diego Gay and Lesbian News. "This summer, the Padres had a huge presence during Pride at the rally and in the parade with Padres CEO Mike Dee speaking at the Pride Rally about 'Ending Homophobia in Professional Sports.' I saw Mike and the Padres again at the GSDBA annual benefit. It’s just incredible!

"The Padres are now a role model for all professional sports teams in reaching out to the LGBT community.

Lehman adds: "And we’re seeing professional baseball continue to make great progress. I had the opportunity to spend time with Billy Bean, Major League Baseball’s VP for Inclusion—he’s working full time on these issues and really making change happen."

Padres President and CEO Mike Dee says that "Jingle" is a festive and entertaining event that everyone should experience,  “The Padres are proud to support the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus and to provide the opportunity for many San Diegans to experience this special show for the first time.”

For the past 31 years the chorus has brought this magic of Christmas and music to San Diego, driven by 160 voices who bring in the cheer and goodwill to help San Diego County LGBT youth, local students, military, first responders and their families and organizations supporting and providing services to the LGBT community.

Songs this year will include: “Silent Night,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Still, Still, Still,” and “Over the River.”

The SDGMC will also have some fun this year with Frozen’s “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman,” and the hilarious “Recycle the Fruitcake.”
