SAN DIEGO, California -- A celebration of the completion of the Barrio Logan Community Sign will be held during a street fair this Saturday, Dec. 13.
Community members are invited to celebrate under the sign at Cesar Chavez and Main Streets from noon to 4 pm with music, dancing, food trucks, local beer sampling and festivities for people of all ages.
Construction on the long-awaited community sign, which spans Cesar E Chavez Parkway between Main Street and Newton Avenue, began in January. The project also also included crosswalk enhancements, lane adjustments and beautification improvements in the community near the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal.
San Diego has a tradition of erecting neighborhood signs in its oldest urban communities such as Hillcrest, North Park, University Heights, Normal Heights and Kensington.
Saturday's event event is sponsored by the Barrio Logan Sign Fest, Barrio Art Association, the Port Of San Diego, Fuller Lighting, the Barrio Logan Association and the City of San Diego.
