Harvey Milk Day celebration in San Diego ends with a toast | VIDEO

SAN DIEGO -- To close out a day full of events and activities in honor of slain gay rights hero Harvey Milk, about 30 community members last night gathered on the steps of The San Diego LGBT Community Center for the second annual Toast to Harvey Milk.

The event, spearheaded this year by local group San Diego Remembers, is intended to create a space for community members to come together in a casual environment to honor Milk’s legacy. Following brief remarks by one of the event’s founders Steven Shultz and a speech by young activist Thomas Negron, Jr., marchers proceeded down Harvey Milk Street -- the first such street in the nation -- to a celebration at Harvey Milk’s American Diner.

Nearly 100 people gathered at the diner for a toast, performance by the San Diego Women’s Chorus, and celebration.
