SAN DIEGO -- Community activist Susan Jester was awarded with the San Diego Republican Party’s Coalition Builder Award at the annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner held Friday night.
Jester serves as the president of the San Diego County chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans and is credited with working to build bridges between the LGBT community and the Republican Party. Some noted that the award was particularly fitting as this year’s Lincoln-Reagan Dinner theme was “Expanding Our Republican Coalition.”
San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer spoke at the event and according to 10 News, he told the crowd that he included the LGBT community, minorities, and others left out of the Republican picture in his campaign strategy which ultimately led to him defeating his Democratic opponent.
Jester was recently inducted onto The San Diego LGBT Community Center’s Wall of Honor for her pioneering work in the community, and was presented her honor at the ceremony by Mayor Faulconer.
