SAN DIEGO -- The application process for the 2014 class of The San Diego LGBT Community Center's Young Professionals Council Academy is open and accepting applications through Feb. 7.
The Young Professionals Council (YPC) Academy was created to empower and develop young LGBT professionals and their allies through six Saturday courses over a three-month period in the spring.
Selected participants will participate in the courses, which will each be a full day of training and discussion, focusing on an area of leadership development.
YPC Academy's goal is to expand the ranks of young LGBT leaders who are ready to further equality through board service for a variety of agencies, not-for-profit organizations and government commissions. Upon completion of the Academy, The Center will work with graduates to assist them in obtaining placements in various leadership positions.
Applicants must be members of the Young Professionals Council in good standing, which means they participate in The Center's "I Belong" program, and attend YPC functions regularly. Those who are interested in participating in the Academy but are not yet a YPC member should continue the application process and become a member of YPC by the start of Academy.
To apply, applicants should send a one-page resume, and a 250-450 word short essay on why they would like to participate in the YPC Academy. Those selected for the class will be announced on Monday, Feb. 24.
Academy dates for this year are Saturdays March 1, March 29, April 12, April 26, May 3 and May 31.
