Pet adoptions in San Diego discounted this month for veterans

SAN DIEGO -- In celebration of Veterans Day, the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA and the San Diego County Department of Animal Services are honoring veterans for their service to our country by offering 50% off adoption fees for any pet adoption through the end of the month.

The reduced adoption fee will be offered through Nov. 30 and includes the spay/neuter surgery, microchip, preliminary vaccinations, a sample bag of pet food, and adopter support for the life of the pet.

“We always offer a 25% discount for military, but in celebration of Veteran’s Day we want to honor those who serve our country in a special way,” said Dr. Gary Weitzman, president and CEO of San Diego Humane Society and SPCA (Weitzman served in the U.S. Air Force from 1993 to 2001). “Animals are known to have a therapeutic effect on people, which can be especially beneficial for our veterans.”

“This is truly a win-win situation for both the pets that deserve a loving home and our service members who will gain a loyal, forever companion,” said Dawn Danielson, director of the Department of Animal Services.

The 50% discount will be offered to veterans and active military through November 30th. To find the unconditional love and companionship of an animal, please visit one of the following animal shelter locations:
