SAN DIEGO -- This month, we're excited to welcome San Diego City Councilmember Mark Kersey to Hillcrest Town Council. While it's true that Councilmember Kersey represents District 5 - an area that does not include Hillcrest - he is also the chair of the newly-formed city council Infrastructure Committee, tasked with figuring out how to tackle our City's extensive backlog of maintenance projects.
As he told Fox5 San Diego, "As we begin to emerge from our fiscal woes, we have to address cracked sidewalks, pothole-filled roads, broken storm drains and city facilities that are falling apart in our neighborhoods,' Kersey said. "We will be creating strategies to deliver projects faster, going into the communities to listen to their priorities, and developing a five-year plan to fix our long-neglected infrastructure needs."
Clearly, this is a City-wide issue — which is why we've asked Councilmember Kersey to join us to talk infrastructure, and why you need to bring your thoughts and questions on Tuesday.
As always, we'll also have representatives from our other local government offices. This is a great opportunity to reach out to our esteemed local elected officials! This is also our public comment time. Do you have something about the community you'd to share with the group? Now's the time to do it. You'll have the full attention of everyone, so feel free to introduce your business or yourself, your concerns about the neighborhood -- or just say hi!
Recently, San Diego Mayor Bob Filner announced plans for temporary traffic management of Balboa Park's Plaza de Panama. Interested in learning more or asking the Mayor a question? Join the Bankers Hill Residents Group at 6:30 pm on Monday, May 20 on the top floor of the Inn at the Park (Spruce Street between Fifth and Sixth). Everyone is invited to also come at 6 pm, to socialize before the event with a no host bar.
Hillcrest Town Council's Steering Committee is often where the magic begins. Come be a part of the team that sets the agenda for our monthly meetings, and helps make other critical decisions about where Hillcrest Town Council moves. Join us at 141 University Ave. at 6 pm on May 27.
Want to really make a difference in Hillcrest? There's no better place to do it than at Hillcrest Town Council. Whether you simply attend our meetings and speak up, or whether you serve on our Board of Directors, there's always a role for bettering our community. Want to join in? Come to our meeting on Tuesday, and learn more about how you can really make a difference.
It's always a fun night on the second Tuesday of the month with the Hillcrest Town Council. We meet at 6:30 pm at the Joyce Beers Center, in the Uptown Shopping District near Trader Joe's shopping center on Vermont Street. Bring a friend -- we'll see you there!
