Fashionably Out: Meet me at the Met, via cyberspace

It’s always nice when you have an excuse to turn down someone because you “already have plans” somewhere else. There is something glamorous about feeling that you’re wanted at more than one place, yet you have the ultimate decision as to who to bless with your impeccable presence.

Although it’s fun to go out, sometimes staying in can be just as fancy! Well, depending on what it is you’re doing, of course. Because if your definition of staying in depicts you in an old sweatshirt eating your feelings away while catching up on the latest Biggest Loser, then I don’t know what to tell you, my dear.

But before you throw your smart phone into water a la Andy Sachs or break your computer in half and scream “I HATE YOU CHRISTIAN, YOU DON’T KNOW MY LIFE!” and go all Black Swan on your fashion guru, allow me to share with you about a pretty glamorous event happening soon that might (just might) clear the air.

Every year, The Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art stages a fashion exhibition with eccentric and mind-blowing themes. In collaboration with Moda Operandi and Conde Nast, this year’s theme is “PUNK: Chaos To Couture.” Showcasing how punk dressing originated and the influence it has had on the runway - with mannequins dressed in designer pieces both vintage and modern.

The exciting part about this exhibition? The Met Gala, which occurs days before the exhibition opens to the public, is where designers and celebrities walk the red carpet in fashion you might have never seen! Designers like Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen and Michael Kors and celebrities like Beyonce, Emma Stone, Marion Cotillard and Justin Timberlake are all on the list!

What sets this live stream apart from any other red-carpet affair is the intimacy and etiquette in which these guests arrive in. For a fashion savvy, the Met Gala is an encouragement that fashion is moving forward in this world through beautiful collaboration within designers and celebrities. For those learning how to spell “Gabbana,” this event serves as a great introduction to the fashion world - something your fashion guru highly endorses!

So on May 6, allow yourself a glamorous evening by sending “sorry, I’m watching the Met Gala tonight” to your countless of invitations - then pity on them for not doing the same. The gala starts at 7 pm, and will only be streamed online, through Moda Operandi, Vogue, Samsung or through the Metropolitan Museum.

As for your fashion guru, maybe a bottle of Veuve Clicquot to celebrate fashion and a night at home will do just fine on this fine evening!

And if you want some cyber company, tweet me your favorite looks throughout the stream as I will be sharing mine! Because getting tweets about fashion brings me joy - so please don’t send any of you in your old sweatshirt.
