Pug Rescue to celebrate 22nd anniversary with Super Heroes theme party

SAN DIEGO -- To celebrate its 22nd anniversary, Pug Rescue of San Diego hosts its annual May Pug Party on Saturday, May 4 from 10 am to 4 pm at the Del Mar Fairground’s Infield Pavilion.

This year’s theme is “Pug Super Heroes” commemorating more than two decades of giving Pugs loving homes and the unparalleled support of community volunteers.

The Pug Party is the organization’s biggest fundraising event of the year and the largest gathering of Pugs on the West Coast.

Pugs and their loving owners will dress according to the theme as various super hero characters. Pugs will enter various competitions including a wet t-shirt contest, a cupcake chomp eating contest and the most distinguished senior Pug contest. New this year is a Pug Talent Showcase. Also at the event will be a shopping boutique featuring Pug-friendly vendors from throughout Southern California and a raffle of more than 20 gift baskets. The annual Pug Party attracts hundreds of attendees – it’s a fun day out for Pugs and their Parents.

Tickets may be purchased at the door and are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger. All proceeds will go to Pug Rescue of San Diego in support of its mission to rescue abandoned or neglected Pugs, ensure they receive needed medical attention, and place them in permanent, loving homes. Several Pugs available for adoption will also be attending this celebration. Guests interested in adopting a Pug from the organization are encouraged to fill out an application in advance.

Funds raised at this event help Pug Rescue continue to provide medical care and comfort to Pugs in foster care until they find their very own home. All money goes directly to provide needed veterinary care, medications and on-going support for the Pugs in foster care. Funds raised also cover the costs associated with finding adoptive, forever homes for the 100-plus Pugs placed in their care each year. Since 1991, Pug Rescue of San Diego County has received and cared for more than 2,400 Pugs.
