Long Beach seminar to teach gay and lesbian couples about taxes, estate planning

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Because of inequality, gay and lesbian couples face different obstacles that opposite-sex couples when it comes to taxes and estate planning.

Wendy Hartmann, a tax and estate-planning lawyer who specializes in LGBT issues, will speak this weekend about how to overcome those obstacles. She will talk about domestic partnership laws, estate planning and tax issues as they apply to gay and lesbian couples.

California has legalized civil unions for gay and lesbian couples, and could soon be permitting same-sex marriage if the U.S. Supreme Court knocks down Proposition 8. The high court’s decision is due by the end of June.

Oxford-Guzman Financial Services will present the free event at 10 am Saturday at Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery, 1 Pine Ave. in Long Beach.

To attend, RSVP by noon Friday by calling Ed Oxford at 562-491-4416.
