SAN DIEGO -- As the San Diego Democrats for Equality continues its restructuring, members and others are invited to hear updates on the process at the next general meeting taking place Tuesday, April 23 at 6:30 pm.
At the meeting, club leaders will share a summary of the strategic planning recommendations and appoint an implementation task force. The club has been working on a detailed process evaluating, assessing, and prioritizing the club's strategies and explore alternative governance options for restructuring the organization.
Following the restructuring presentation, those in attendance will hear remarks from Francine Busby, the new chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party. Following Busby's presentation will be a brief overview of the Supreme Court marriage cases by local attorney Eric Isaacson.
The meeting will then feature a candidate forum and endorsement vote for the 80th Assembly District seat, which was vacated by Ben Hueso when he was elected to the State Senate. The two candidates on the ballot are both Democrats: Lorena Gonzalez, Secretary-Treasurer and CEO of the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council; and Steve Castaneda, former Chula Vista Councilmember.
Dining Out For Life San Diego is also taking place that evening and participants are encouraged to make dinner plans following the meeting to support the fundraiser. Several San Diego Democrats for Equality members will be dining at Lil B's on El Cajon Boulevard after the meeting.
The meeting will take place at the Joyce Beers Community Center, 3900 Vermont Ave. in Hillcrest. Meeting attendees are reminded to park in the shopping center's underground parking lot - those parked at the surface level risk being towed.
