Lt. Governor Gavin Newson to speak at Tom Homann LGBT Law Association dinner in San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom will deliver the key note address at the Tom Homann LGBT Law Association's 20th annual Installation Dinner and Awards Ceremony to be held May 30 at the U.S. Grant Hotel.

As a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, then as mayor of San Francisco, and now as Lieutenant Governor of California, Newsom has been a visionary on issues of equality, the environment, homelessness and healthcare. Policies he has initiated and implemented have been duplicated in cities across the nation.

"We are very excited to welcome Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom as this year’s keynote speaker," said Michael Manley, THLA co-president. “This will be our 20th annual Installation Dinner. As we mark the life of THLA's voice in our community, we celebrate Lt. Governor Newsom's actions that have led to California's fight for equality appearing before the U.S. Supreme Court."

Among other accomplishments, then-Mayor Newsom threw himself into one of the most divisive issues in U.S. politics 36 days into his first term as mayor of San Francisco in 2004 by allowing same-sex couples to marry in violation of state law.

“Lieutenant Governor Newsom has played a significant role in advancing LGBT equality. We are honored he has accepted our invitation to speak at our Annual Dinner and are excited the San Diego community will have the opportunity to hear his viewpoint,” said Denise Visconti, THLA co-president.

The event will begin at 5:30 pm with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner and a program ill at 6:30 pm.

Tickets to the dinner can be purchased online or from a THLA board member. Discounts are available for law students and members of the armed services.
