SAN DIEGO -- A coalition of local organizations is organizing the "Light a Tree for Newton, CT Community" vigil to be held at 5:30 pm Thursday, Dec. 20.
Community members are invited to attend the event, which will include a tree-lighting ceremony and speakers.
Organizers have set up 26 Christmas trees - 20 miniature trees and six large trees to represent the child and adult victims of last Friday's shooting rampage.
Prticipants will be able to decorate the trees with notes, letters and mementos. After the event, the San Diego Association of Realtors (SDAR) - one of the lead organizers of the event - will send the tributes to Newtown residents.
Participating organizations include the San Diego Unified School District, San Diego County YMCA, Star Pal, San Diego Police Officers Association, the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, Point Loma Nazarene University and SDAR.
The event will take place on the front lawn of SDAR's main offices, located at 4845 Ronson Court in Kearney Mesa.
