SAN DIEGO -- As a Halloween treat, San Diego State University's (SDSU) LGBT Student Union (LGBTSU) will host the twice yearly Big Gay BBQ, today from 5-11 pm.
Since this semester's event falls on Halloween, the event will have a Halloween theme and include a costume contest with prizes. There will also be a resource fair, free food and drinks, a marriage photo booth, open mic and dance party.
LGBTSU first hosted a "Coming Out Day" BBQ on Oct. 11, 2000 to bring together the LGBT community on campus. Following that first BBQ event, student leaders decided to continue to host the event each semester as the "Big Gay BBQ." Today's BBQ marks the 25th consecutive semester that the event has been organized.
The event has become one of the largest student organization hosted gatherings on campus, bringing together hundreds of students, faculty/staff, and visitors to celebrate the LGBT community at the school.
The free event is open to the public and will take place at Scripps Cotagge on the west end of the campus.
SDSU is located at 5500 Campanile Drive in the College Area.
