Actress Maureen Garrett, who played Holly Lindsey on CBS' "Guiding Light" for 35 years, has publicly come out.
She told Out magazine in a story published Thursday on National Coming Out Day that she had urged the soap opera writers about creating a lesbian relationship for Holly, but they declined. Several years later, the writers finally decided to take up the issue but did not use her character as part of the romance.
"Guiding Light" was terminated in 2009, and Garrett said she left New York to pursue other interests that included sculpting and writing and studying Spanish.
