SAN DIEGO -- SDG&E has donated $7,500 to support of youth leadership development at Hillcrest Youth Center, The San Diego LGBT Community Center said today.
"We are tremendously fortunate to have SDG&E’s support for The Center’s Hillcrest Youth Center," said Christopher Mills, director of major gifts. "Hillcrest Youth Center fills a critical need for LGBTQ youth throughout San Diego County thanks to amazing corporate sponsors like SDG&E. Generous grants like this one help make our work possible, and we are greatly appreciative of their support."
“SDG&E is proud to partner with the San Diego LGBT Community Center to support the Hillcrest Youth Center,” said Pedro Villegas, SDG&E director of community relations.
“The San Diego LGBT community is strong due in large part to the strength over many decades of its leaders. But leadership doesn’t always happen on its own, and it often takes opportunities for youth character development and mentoring to foster the next generation of responsible, ethical, diverse, and prepared leaders that our communities can count on in the future. SDG&E is committed to providing those opportunities for tomorrow’s leaders. We proudly support the programs of the Hillcrest Youth Center that give the youth of the San Diego LGBT community the support they need and deserve,” he said
The Hillcrest Youth Center (HYC) is the only drop-in and recreational center in San Diego County solely dedicated to the needs of LGBT youth and allies. Since opening in July 2000, HYC has hosted over 5,000 LGBT youth between the ages of 14 and 18. HYC provides a safe, affirming space where youth receive caring and committed adult mentorship, educational opportunities, leadership training, life skills training and social activities.
