SAN DIEGO -- Community members who attend tonight's Hillcrest Town Council meeting will be treated to a tour of the neighborhood without getting out of their chairs.
Patty Fares from Urban Safari Walking Tours of San Diego will present a slideshow tour of the area at tonight's meeting in advance of her next Hillcrest Safari this Saturday.
Through her company, Fares offers walking tours of many of San Diego’s most unique neighborhoods, such as Ocean Beach, South Park, East Village, North Park, Hillcrest, and others. Fares, who teaches Travel & Tourism courses at Southwestern Community College, has lived in San Diego for over 25 years and fell in love with its many neighborhoods, which led her to start her company.
Following Fares’ presentation will be an update from Tim Gahagan, president of the Uptown Parking Advisory Board. Gahagan will welcome comments from community about Hillcrest parking and transportation issues.
The meeting will also include updates from representatives of local government offices, and the San Diego Police Department, as well as a time for public comment.
Newly opened Hillcrest restaurant Pita Jungle will share samples of its dishes with meeting attendees and cake and other refreshments will also be served.
All Hillcrest residents - renters and owners - are encouraged to attend the meeting, which is held on the second Tuesday of each month.
The meeting begins at 6:30 pm at the Joyce Beers Community Center, located on Vermont Street just north of University Avenue in the Uptown District Shopping Center. Unlimited parking is available in the shopping center’s underground lots. Surface level parking is limited to two hours.
