SAN DIEGO – With summer approaching, many people are scratching their heads – or their bellies – trying to figure out how to tighten up some of those stubborn fat areas on their bodies.
Instead of slaving away at the gym, or going on a diet – which may not produce the intended results – Hillcrest Dermatology is now offering CoolSculpting as an alternative.
CoolSculpting is an innovative procedure which targets fat cells to eliminate them, in a non-invasive environment.
Participants only feel a slight bit of discomfort during the procedure and are able to go back to their normal, every day activities immediately after completing a treatment.
It’s fast, it’s easy and those who have tried the procedure, say it works.
But how does it work?
Dr. William Heimer of Hillcrest Dermatology, who is one of only a handful of doctors in the San Diego area whose practice is certified to provide the CoolSculpting treatment, says the science behind it is fairly simple.
Unlike other procedures which use lasers, sonic waves, or surgery, CoolSculpting uses a targeted cooling process that kills the fat cells underneath the skin, and actually freezes them. The dead fat cells are then eliminated by the body, through the body’s natural processes.
Heimer says that patients can expect to see results in as little as three months and don’t even have to workout or do anything else to achieve the desired results.
“Many clients come in to the office skeptical about the procedure, but are clearly wowed after they see the results,” Heimer said. “Most of the referrals we've seen have been through word-of-mouth from satisfied clients.”
Several of his clients have even seen results in areas of the body they never knew they could shape.
Is it safe?
Heimer says that the procedure has been FDA approved for two years, and his office has been performing CoolSculpting treatments since December.
“We are starting to see our first wave of results and have yet to hear from any client that has not been satisfied,” Heimer said.
While the more traditional liposuction treatment is still a viable option, there are cost benefits to CoolSculpting and the results are fairly similar.
“CoolSculpting is meant for people who can pinch what they want to get rid of,” Heimer said. “If you can pinch it, we can freeze it.”
In addition, patients who have medical complications that prevent them from liposuction treatments can have the CoolSculpting treatment in most cases.
Heimer and his colleagues are certain that those who get the CoolSculpting treatment will feel better about themselves within months of the procedure. Those who give it a try and like the results can then continue treatments in the same area of the body or try different areas.
Heimer’s office is conveniently located at 3737 Fourth Ave. in the heart of Hillcrest, making the quick visit even more convenient.
