The true "changer of the changed" offers an intimate show at unique Normal Heights venue
SAN DIEGO -- This Saturday, February 18, 2012, at 7:30 pm, one of the biggest icons in the history of women's music will be coming to San Diego for an intimate evening at AMSDConcerts in Normal Heights.
Previously known as American Music San Diego, the venue is a beautiful old church, located at 4650 Mansfield St., San Diego, CA 92116.
Williamson's groundbreaking 1974 album, "The Changer and the Changed" was a beacon of light and hope for lesbians and all over the world.
Released in 1974 on the new Olivia Records, "Changer" was not only one of the albums that launched the women's music genre, it was also the first time lesbians or women questioning their sexuality ever heard a recording of love songs directed at other women.
It was also one of the biggest selling independent label albums of all time and the first album to be produced entirely by women. This story and Williamson's lyrics are now taught in Women's Studies curriculum across the country.
In addition to keeping her music alive and touring over the last thirty years, Williamson now also teaches songwriting workshops, and just completed a seven day class in Big Sur this past January.
For the month of February, Williamson is touring in honor of love, and returning to San Diego for the first time in decades as a result.
Time and again, I’m asked to sing my Love Songs. It being the Season of Love, what better time to trot out the ol’ love songs, offer up the new ones, and pull a few from the American Songbook.
So, let’s get together in February to honor the loves of our lives, and the music that moves us, heals us, speaks to our relationships and our losses. - Cris Williamson
This tour is the inspiration for her next album, expected to be released by Christmas.
In recent years, Williamson has also released an "Essential Cris Williamson," with 33 of her favorite songs from 1974-2005, and re-released "The Changer and the Changed - 30th anniversary edition" in 2004.
