SAN DIEGO -- To help cover some of the funeral expenses of Sam Cuevas, who died on Nov. 22, a group of his friends will host a fundraiser for his family tonight at The Lincoln Room.
The event will begin at 9 pm and include a host bar, complimentary appetizers and music.
Cuevas was a well-liked member of San Diego's LGBT community who died at age 48 after battling a long illness. Cuevas and his partner, Chris Walsh, were well-known for the local restaurants they opened together, Cafe W and Bite.
Born and raised in the East Bay area of California, Cuevas moved to San Diego in 1998 shortly after meeting Walsh at the San Francisco LGBT Pride celebration.
Tammy Soto, who was a close friend of Cuevas and is one of the organizers of the event, said that several of Cuevas' friends who work in the bar and restaurant industry will serve as "guest staff" tonight, including Jamie Andrade and Gavin Garner of Urban Mo's; Justin Nelson from Gossip Grill; Gardenia Partridge; and Davina Kostiana Love.
Taj Al-Taji will serve as DJ, spinning music all night.
The suggested donation to attend the event is $15.
All staff will donate tips earned tonight to Cuevas' family, along with money collected at the door.
The Lincoln Room is located at 901 Fourth Ave. in Downtown.
