TUESDAY: Hillcrest Town Council invites all neighbors to its monthly meeting

SAN DIEGO -- Since its inception, the Hillcrest Town Council (HTC) has worked to provide a voice for the people who live in the neighborhood it serves. To encourage participation, the community group is inviting all residents of the greater Hillcrest area -- renters and owners -- to attend its next meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 6:30 pm.

A number of topics will be discussed at this month's meeting which will begin with updates from elected officials whose districts include Hillcrest.

Those in attendance at the meeting will also learn about the process to elect new board members to the Uptown Community Parking District. Parking has been an important issue to Hillcrest residents, visitors and business owners for many years -- likely due to the lack of it -- and HTC is hoping to elect two residents to the board which addresses a number of issues related to parking in the Uptown area.

Along with parking, traffic signals for pedestrians are also an issue of concern to many Hillcrest residents, HTC officials said, and meeting participants will have the opportunity to provide input on how to improve pedestrian traffic signals in the neighborhood.

HTC board member Anne Haule will discuss bringing community gardens into the neighborhood, since the City Council recently eased restrictions on creating them.

The meeting will take place at the Joyce Beers Community Center in Uptown District, along Vermont Street just north of Cleveland Avenue. HTC board members caution that there is a two-hour time limit on parking in the shopping center.
