SAN DIEGO -- Join the San Diego LGBT Community Center’s Women’s Resource Center for "Coffee & Conversation with Cool Women" on Tuesday, July 6, beginning at 7 p.m. at The Center.
Host Tryce Czyczynska will interview businesswoman and political mover-and-shaker Susan Atkins.
"Atkins was chosen because she's a woman who gives to many communities, from technology (her career of choice) to pro-choice efforts and the arts," Czyczynska said. "Her great passion is helping elect quality LGBT folks to public office. She's generous in her support, she's incredibly outspoken, and seems to think anything is possible."
Atkins founded Atkins + Associates in the late 1990s and sold the company to Porter Novelli Life Sciences, where she is currently chair and senior counselor. She has been a leader in the biotechnology industry for more than 20 years, since she was director of communications for Genentech and launched biotechnology's first product.
She served as a corporate officer and vice president of communications for Ligand Pharmaceuticals and Rorer Group, and as group vice president of Ketchum Public Relations. Atkins founded Middle Earth Day Care Center and was a member of LEAD Tulsa and LEAD San Diego.
Atkins was also involved in a citywide literacy program in Philadelphia.
Additionally, she is presently a member of the executive committee of the Biocom board of directors and is active in the international Biotechnology Industry Organization. Atkins holds a B.A. in journalism and an M.A. in mass communications from the University of Oklahoma, and an MBA from Pepperdine University.
Atkins resides in San Diego's Point Loma community.
This event is free and open to both men and women.
"[Atkins] promised that no subject is off limits. I can't wait to ask if there's anything she's actually afraid of," Czyczynska said.
