The first time I went to San Diego Pride’s Spirit of Stonewall Rally was in 2000. It was only a few weeks before that I had been homeless and living in my car. I was from the rural border town of El Centro which had a very anti-LGBTQ climate. There was no Pride. No LGBTQ community. Back then I didn’t know what Pride was. I didn’t know what acceptance felt like.

Neighborhood pride is what Hillcrest does best and now you can show it.

We're reviving Hillcrest's Sidewalk Flag Program. It's one of San Diego's oldest neighborhood improvement programs started by the old Hillcrest Lions Club. On patriotic holidays, we're installing hundreds of US Flags in sidewalks throughout the neighborhood.

San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood, known today as the region's LGBTQ community hub, has a rich history. That history includes the neighborhood's birth over a century ago, being one of the City's first "suburban" neighborhoods outside of Downtown, a downfall, and a revitalization by the LGBTQ community, artists, and other creative types.

The Nicky Awards are coming back in 2022!

San Diego LGBT News has learned that the popular annual LGBTQ community honors ceremony, The Nicky Awards, will return in 2022!

The Nicky Awards have been held since 1975 and have honored decades of LGBTQ San Diegans. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the awards were cancelled for the first time ever in 2020, and again in 2021.
