Pride flag flies over city hall in National City for the first time ever

The City of National City raised a Pride flag over its City Hall during a ceremony held today. The modern version of the Pride flag, the Progressive Pride flag, was chosen by city officials to fly in honor of Pride Month.

This was a historic first for National City as historically, areas of the county outside of central core neighborhoods like Hillcrest, were not known to be supportive of the LGBTQ community.

The idea to fly the flag was brought forward by community activists in the city, particularly resident Coyote Moon, who became a very vocal proponent to get city officials to change their flag code to allow the rainbow flag to be flown.

City officials including National City Mayor Alejandra Sotelo-Solis and Councilmember Marcus Bush were joined by other community leaders and residents to raise the flag outside of City Hall at a ceremony held at 12:30 pm today.

National City is located just south of the City of San Diego. For those who to see the flag flying, National City's City Hall is located at 1243 National City Blvd.
