After serving in the role for 8 years, Haus decided to not return after a COVID-19 furlough but said he will continue to support the organization in any way he can.
Dear Friends and Supporters of the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus,
I want to thank each of you for your continued support of the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus (SDGMC) over this extraordinary past year. We’ve experienced a pandemic, while also learning just how much music and the performing arts contributes to both our community and ourselves.
I am writing today to share news about our chorus’ leadership and direction. In anticipation of returning to in-person rehearsals, and a probable live "Jingle" show this December, the Board of Directors extended an offer to Artistic Director RC Haus to return from furlough to direct our winter show. RC shared with me Monday evening that he has chosen to resign at this time, and will not be returning from furlough.
So, today, I write to thank RC Haus for his artistic leadership of SDGMC over the past eight years. I want to also acknowledge RC’s passion and support for our chorus. But, perhaps the best words I can share come from RC himself, in his letter to the board: “I love this organization and will always be available to support in any way I can. I hope its greatest days are ahead! I look forward to attending my first 'Jingle' this winter as an audience member and supporter.”
The Board of Directors, with the support of our Executive Director Jeff Heine, will begin planning for the continuity of our artistic direction going into "Jingle" this fall. In addition, following strategic planning in June, I anticipate we will launch a national search for the next SDGMC Artistic Director.
But in the mean time, as they say, the show will go on. This weekend we will present “All Together Now,” a virtual concert celebrating the perseverance of our community, our supporters and singers during the pandemic year. In true SDGMC spirit, we will also have a little fun along the way. You can watch “All Together Now” starting this Saturday, May 29 at 8pm Pacific Time, with performances available to watch on demand through Memorial Day. And for Pride, we will be back with another virtual concert, “Unmuted!” Both concerts will feature new virtual performances as well as highlights from our past years under RC Haus’ artistic leadership.
On behalf of the SDGMC Board of Directors,
James Marshall, Ph.D.,
