“It’s a crazy day in Washington! I’m flipping my wig over the high-energy proceedings today."
A drag queen was giving Capitol Hill realness at the Trump impeachment hearings on Wednesday. Pissi Myles of Asbury Park, New Jersey was on the scene at the U.S. Capitol dressed in a red pleather mini and a blonde bouffant wig.
“It’s a crazy day in Washington! I’m flipping my wig over the high-energy proceedings today," Myles told NBC News. "Tensions are high, and the bar for who’s allowed in the Longworth House is very, very low.”
Myles is a well-known drag performer and producer who also hosts a podcast titled "My Gay Spooky Family."
"In a surprise turn of events, I am down in Washington D.C. today with Happs, the first open-source live news network, to cover the impeachment hearings in the capital," Myles wrote on Facebook promoting a new app. "I'll be commenting on what’s going on, and probably causing a ruckus in day drag."
Social media was quick with the cameras and captured the performer going through security and heading through the halls of justice.
David Ayllon, Myles’ husband and business partner, told NBC News Myles was picked to be the correspondent for the new app after the company spotted his performance at Barracuda Lounge.
“They scouted him out at his Barracuda show on Sunday," Ayllon said. "I do know they were looking for a comedian who could improv on the spot and deliver the news in a fun way."
The national media was also amused at the sight of Myles, C-SPAN and NBC News delivering memorable images of the performer to their readers.
