Make room for more scooters, Lyft is the latest ridesharing company to add their brand name to electric scooters in San Diego starting on Thursday.

The company said in a statement that they are guided by four key tenents, "Transportation equity, safer streets, transit integration, and environmental sustainability."

This will be the company's third launch in Southern California with other cities to follow in the near future.

Circulate San Diego and Vision Zero will benefit from this latest endeavor, receiving $1 for every scooter ride through the end of the year.

“We’re thrilled to bring Lyft Scooters to San Diego and provide safe, affordable and sustainable mobility options - all within a single app,” said Kyle Zuvella, Lyft Bikes & Scooters Market Manager for San Diego. “Lyft is committed to a future with cities built around people instead of cars, and the integration of scooters helps to further this movement.”

This news comes just a day after an official launch announcement from competitor Uber who released their fleet of e-scooters called JUMP in San Diego.

Scooters have become abundant in the San Diego landscape, along with Uber and Lyft there is also Bird, Razor, and Lime.

"We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the private and public sectors to work together to make our cities designed for people not cars," said Lyft co-founder John Zimmer. "We see the introduction of bikes and scooters to our cities’ shared transit ecosystems as one more step in Lyft’s civic responsibility."
