The image was drawn over the Salton Sea.
It what looks like something Maverick from Top Gun would do, the Marine pilot(s) of a T-34C aircraft left something to be desired during a flight pattern this week.
Marine Corps spokesperson Josef Patterson told Task and Purpose that the pilot of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing flew in a pattern that outlined a penis and the branch has "opened an investigation that is underway as we speak."
The image was reportedly caught by @AircraftSpots on Tuesday over the Salton Sea. You can see it HERE.
There is no word yet on exactly how many pilots were involved with the prank.
Major Josef Patterson released a statement about the incident:
"A T-34C aircraft assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 101, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, flew an irregular flight pattern over the Salton Sea that resembled a phallic image.
An investigation to uncover the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
The aircrew's chain of command are committed to maintaining an environment of professionalism, dignity and respect. The Marines and Sailors of 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing will perform at the highest levels expected of professional war fighters, and uphold our core values of honor, courage and commitment."
