The massive religious organization plans to do community outreach in the area.
The historic Body Shop in the Midway District that closed last December, has been purchased by The Rock Church.
The former strip club is located at 3776 Riley Street and sits right behind another live adult entertainment mainstay; Les Girls just off of Camino Del Rio W.
The giant evangelical megachurch has five campuses around San Diego with thier main location in Point Loma's Liberty Station.
In an interview with ABC News, Miles McPherson, pastor at Rock Church said the organization wants to do more than just repurpose the buiding they want to transform the neghborhood.
"We thought it was a great idea because we know the pain that goes on in that building," he said. "Not just the women, but the men who go there and their families.”
He adds that there are no definitive plans for the structure at this point, "We don’t know what we're going to do with the building, we just know what it won’t be used for."
Pastor McPherson also wants to get rid of signage referencing "Nude Girls."
"It would be nice to put 'Rock Church' on top of that billboard, but that's another step," he said. "We’ll get to that. But you know the people in that community have been looking at that building for 50 years, and hopefully we can put something more positive in that building.”
The church also has plans to do community outreach in the area and McPherson says, former employees won't be turned away from The Rock's massive congregation.
“I want to tell you that we love you," he said of former models and employees. "And you are welcome at our church.”
Pastor McPherson is a former NFL player and started the evangelical church 18 years ago. It has become one of the largest churches in San Diego.
