A European teen was told that he could not perform in drag at his high school and now he's going to set the stage on fire at Europe's largest drag-con, DragWorld UK.

Lewis Bailey,14, goes to Castle High School and Visual Arts College in Dudley, England and wanted to perform in drag as his alter ego Athena Heart at the school's talent show.

But he was told it was illegal by one of the teachers and therefore was banned from doing the show.

“One of the teachers told him he couldn’t do it anymore because the law that says you can’t do competitions as a drag act if you are under 18,” Lewis’ mother Natalie said.

According to LGBTQ Nation The school has not yet explained which law that teacher was referring to.

Lewis' mother says the routine was completely appropriate as it was just a musical number where her son would lip-sync songs that had been edited for language.

However, the school disagrees and stands by their choice to cut his show,  "Our decision not to let Lewis perform was based on his age and the nature of his act. We are happy for Lewis to express his identity in whichever way he chooses, when it is appropriate for him to do so, as he did on Friday at our non-uniform day."

The teen, who came out to his parents a year ago says drag allows him an inner-freedom, “When I’m in drag I feel I’m truly being myself,” he said. “I can express the other side of myself.”

Despite what his school thinks, Lewis is taking to a much bigger stage, one at ragWorld UK, “Europe’s largest celebration of drag."

Huge drag celebrities will join the teen in August. Lewis is scheduled to entertain audiences with the same act Castle High School refused.

“I’m very excited about my DragWorld invite to perform and get my name out there so others just like me know that it’s ok to be different,” Lewis said.

He also appears on the event's frontpage next to mega headliners Alaska, Jinkx Monsoon, Violet Chachki, and Ginger Minj.

"We don't believe anyone should be told they can't be who they want to be, we can't wait to see Athena strut her stuff," the official DragWorld Instagram page states.
